Google pixel goes Indian set to soar with 10 million units this year
Alphabet Inc's Google is planning to commence production of its Pixel smartphones in India by the next quarter, to produce over 10 million units by 2024.
This strategic shift aims to diversify the supply chain while tapping into India's vast consumer base and potentially reducing costs. By localizing production in India, Google hopes to benefit from the favorable business environment and streamline logistics, leading to cost savings for the tech giant.
The actual manufacturing of phones is slated to begin in the April-June quarter, with the company initiating production lines for its high-end Pixel 8 Pro smartphones in the coming weeks. While it remains unclear whether the devices will be exclusively for the domestic market or intended for export, Google's shift towards India aligns with broader industry trends of major tech players diversifying their manufacturing locations to mitigate supply chain risks.
Google's decision to shift production to India comes as the company continues to demonstrate its capabilities in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. In fact, the tech giant has recently launched an upgraded version of its AI model called Gemini 1.5 Pro, which is designed to handle larger volumes of text and video compared to its competitors, marking a significant leap forward in the realm of generative AI.
