The world's first 100% ethanol-based flex-fuel engine car has launched by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. It is an alternative fuel engine car that can generate its electric power and operate in EV mode. The prototype of the electrified Innova HyCross flex-fuel car is in compliance with the latest emissions standards.
Here are four reasons why you should switch to an ethanol-based car:
First, ethanol-based vehicles emit carbon dioxide that is offset by the carbon dioxide hard to find when the feedstock crops are grown to produce ethanol. This is not the case for gasoline and diesel. In addition, data suggests that using corn-based ethanol produced from dry mills can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 40 %.
Secondly, switching to an ethanol-based car can lead to an increase in job creation in the agricultural and biofuel industries, due to an increased plantation of crops like sugarcane and corn, which are used for producing ethanol.
Thirdly, the new ethanol-based cars can help reduce India's dependence on traditional sources of fuel and move the country towards self-reliance (aatmanirbhar). According to Nitin Gadkari, this move is necessary to bring the oil import to zero, which currently costs Rs 16 lakh crore.
Lastly, besides the environmental benefits, cars running on ethanol also deliver a boost in performance. Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg launched a CCX variant that runs on ethanol, delivering a power of 1018 bhp compared to 806 bhp without the biofuel. This is a direct result of the cooling properties of ethanol in the engine's combustion chambers, along with the added boost it provides.
In conclusion, if you want to reduce such negative gases to keep the environment clean by reducing emissions, creating jobs, achieving self-reliance, and improving performance switching to an ethanol-based car is a great choice.
